When looking at the business website http://www.businessinsider.com/ and the festival website http://www.readingfestival.com/home/ there were a lot of similarities and differences. The similarity that is obvious to any viewer is that there understanding of the importance of networking. Both websites have their own facebook and twitter account so users could add them to their friends on facebook. This is important because they can gather more followers and readers this way and friends of the people that add them can add them as well. Another is that they both have E-mail accounts so people can register to them for information about their chosen subjects. This is important because firstly it gives them an idea of how popular their websites are and secondly if one of their subscribers forgets about their websites they can remind them of the fact that it’s still there and they should look at it again. Also specifically for the business website they can send subscribers offers of products that they have. And for the reading festival websites they can show you offers of camping prices and competitions for money reductions to the festival.
There is however more differences then similarities, one being that on the business website the colours are plain and simple whereas on the reading festival website there are bold bright colours. The business website doesn’t need bright colours as it is a structure mainly to inform the readers of business opportunity’s and products. However festivals are fun group gatherings set over a couple of days so their bold colours are trying to entice the reader in to show them that it will be a great; fun experience if they go.
The festival website has a countdown on the top left hand corner till the day of the reading festival. The business page doesn’t have that because they have a whole range of news and information whereas the reading festival website is for one specific thing so it’s all about that. The business website also have advertisements for products to sell because their company get money for putting them on their websites whereas the company that brought the reading festival have sponsors to help them fund the festival and website so the business collect their own money the festival collect donations that doesn’t really belong to them.

The reading festival website ^^

The business insider website ^^
I tried the links on the PDF file thing and it just confused me so i created a mediafire account and uploaded my PDF files on there and linked the website up so people can download them from mediafire. So it ended up working somehow so that’s good. Also my multi - camera assignment wouldn’t upload on youtube so Ive got take 5 part one and mentioned it was a preview of my multi camera assignment so at least Ive told my audiences this so no one should have a problem because people do that all the time on youtube. So ive finished! Yay, i shall be asking how to publish tomorow and do that.
Woot to the Hoot :) adios!
As i’m having problems putting a PDF link on two of my webpages i have looked onto the internet for ways of doing it. These are some websites i have looked at for the relative information.
http://cbtcafe.com/dreamweaver/linkingpdf/linkingpdf.html
http://en.allexperts.com/q/General-HTML-Web-1043/Linking-pdf-Dreamweaver.htm
This website gives a specific code:
<a href=”application%20packet.pdf” class=”style6”>Scholarship</a>
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=876518
This one is exactly what i need and it has the right question asked! Yipeee!
This will help when i start work finishing my website tomorrow!!!
Because i am finding the scroll box idea for my photography page too long and strenuous (seeing as i keep having to go back and changing the dimensions of my box that i sliced in fireworks) Ive decided to use a slideshow instead because its easier to access on the internet and it wont take so much time and i will be able to keep my hair because its stressing me out!
Also I’ve been trying to find a Dreamweaver tutorial to add a downloadable PDF file onto my website but no luck. I’m completely confused on what to do but hopefully i’ll find one tonight and get my website done tomorrow. Yay :D
I have put all videos into place, all pages apart from a couple of tricky pages i need to put together. One page is my photography that I’m stuck on, i tried to generate a picture scroll box and Google wasn’t very helpful, it took me and hour to even find one. When i did it asked for picture URL so i tried uploading pictures to change the URL took a further half an hour because no web pages uploaded it without either having a fault or asking me to sign up before i could get the code. This is the last hurdle and the most difficult, i might end up not actually generating one because it’s so tricky to find. However i need a scroll box because I need to put 6 pictures on both web pages and the pages are too small. Also I’m having difficulty putting my video’s on Dreamweaver without leaving white patches in my slice box so i decided to leave the white gaps there, it lets the site down a bit in my opinion but I’m finding hard to fix it. The transactions between uploading on youtube and ebbing it onto Dreamweaver are easy though so at least that’s going smoothly.
This is a Dreamweaver Tutorial i was looking at before i started dreamweaver. It was usefull because it taught you how to insert text.
Ive decided out of much thinking that i’m keeping all my backgrounds the same for each page, its classier that way me thinks! However i’m started to get pretty confused cause Ive made all these pages but haven’t put them in order. I’m having a very confused day!
Also i would’ve started putting these pages on Dreamweaver but i forgot how to do it! Wahhhhhh. Oh well; ill find out tomorrow!
IMDB is specifically for media information, movies, actors television E.C.T. If someone wants to say find out the actors name of the main character Will from ‘About A Boy’ they can look it up on IMDB by typing in ‘About a Boy and find it’s Hugh Grant. Also if you sign up for a small fee you can get E-mail information of actors and crew. It launched October 17th 1990.
IMDB us really useful if your talking about a film or television series and you cant place their name, which i know everyone has done at some point so instead of letting it drive you crazy you can look it up on this website.
On the main page it has links to photo’s of new films coming out this is brilliant because you can check the progress of a film that you want to watch. Like at the moment there are photo’s of Shrek four on there main page. There is also a ‘news desk’ which enables you to see how the latest updates in the movie and television industry with video clips and articles of festival’s like Cannes.
Its easy to use because everything is at your fingertips, a search page located at the top of the screen and the top five films at the box office. Also at the bottom left hand corner there is a box asking you which language you want the page to be.
One bad thing about this site is that If you do want a better version of IMDB you have to pay for it, even thought it is a small fee people like myself dont like the idea of buying things off the internet it’s hard for us to want to buy it.
I like the fact at the bottom there is a movie quote/tv quote put on everyday, todays one is… ” We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. Here, in the streets, in competition: A man confronts you, he is the enemy. An enemy deserves no mercy.” and you have to guess the movie quote, and because my website is about my own media work i’m going to use this on my main page but put the name of the movie instead of having people guess it.
South Park is a franchise from America created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone and because the program was so popular there are countless websites on them from fans and official production websites. One I will be focusing on is www.southparkstudios.co.uk.
A good thing about this website for fans is that it has every sing le episode on it for you to watch for free and they have copyright over them so surprisingly its legal to watch and also you don’t have to become a member of the website to watch them. There are pages on this website to various things like video’s, news, games and also a shop to sell their merchandise, this is good because fans can go on this website and very quickly find south park toys and games without going out of their homes to try and find what they want at a shop. However the links, which are, located the top right hand corner of the page in Orange are the only things that are clear to find.
One bad thing I can identify is that the quality of the main page is quite bad, the website is very messy and as you scroll down it’s very complicated to read and understand. You can tell that they’ve put quantity before quality because there are a lot of information but unfortunately I think they have been quite lazy putting all the jumbled up information on the main page when they could have made other pages for each piece of information. For example they have put a news forum on this page and also links to other pages with big pictures all unevenly spaced to each other like South Park FAQ and news letter. They could just easily of made another link on the line of links in the Orange text and it would of looked more professional, they didn’t need pictures.
Because there will be quite a few video’s on my own website I might use there technique of having snap shot of the episodes as the link instead of the link being just the name text of my films.
